The Bolivian Andes are home to an exceptional balance of qualities that makes its green coffee unique and rising in popularity. The cloud forest sits above the mineral-rich jungle regions at altitudes that allow for a balance of hot and cold as the coffee fruits mature through the seasons.

Our coffee partner on the ground, Cooperativa Bio-Arcoíris, takes great pride in being one of the first farmer-founded cooperatives from Bolivia to break into the global market, and strives daily to honor the land and people that have made this growth possible.

  • Cooperative producers are currently located in four different coffee-growing regions of Bolivia: Caranavi, Coroico, Zongo Valley, and Palos Blancos. Altitudes range from 1400-1850 meters above sea level (85% of production) and 1000-1380 meters above sea level (15% of production).

  • Varieties available may differ between different harvests. The varieties of Arabica beans that typically thrive with the cooperative’s altitudes/soil are:

    • Pacamara

    • Yellow and Red Catuai

    • Caturra

    • Typica

    • Gesha

    • Java

    Processing methods include natural, washed, honey, and anaerobic.

  • All of the beans sourced from Khana go through a hand selection process by a dedicated, professionally-trained group of women. Multiple co-op members have been the recipients of awards for especially high-quality microlots (89-90 points), generating great interest from specialty buyers in-country and abroad. Specialty beans from microlots are 84+ depending on the variety/process you are interested in, and commercial beans typically start at 80 points. The co-op’s passion is to continue growing in the specialty market each harvest.

  • Pricing varies depending on the variety and process method that the buyer is interested in. If you would like to request samples, inquire availability, or learn more about export procedures, a representative would be happy to be in touch.

    Export processes typically operate under a FOB model. However, if you are interested in partnership and operate under a different model, please still feel free to reach out.

  • Co-op members also offer additional products for the local Bolivian market including cacao, honey, and sultana. A local representative would be happy to connect with you if you are interested in any of these.

  • The mission of Khana Collective is to catalyze the potential for greater individual and community care by working together. Co-op members receive regular technical assistance and training on their lands as well as access to new technology and resources to improve their product quality, total workers’ health, and financial management skills. With climate change and a variety of other factors, producers’ livelihoods can be destroyed with one poor harvest. Thankfully, co-op members rest easy knowing that they will have their needs met. What’s more, with the extra funds that the organization secures through grants and other means, members help to determine and guide the social initiatives that are most important to them.
